Andrew Verner

2 NHL Games

November 14, 1992 Edmonton Oilers vs Los Angeles Kings. 2-6 loss.
November 18, 1992 Edmonton Oilers vs Vancouver Canucks. 4-2 win.

An OHL All-Star with the Peterborough Petes, the Edmonton Oilers drafted Andrew Verner rather high for a goalie, with their 34th overall pick in 1991.

Andrew Verner's only stint with Edmonton came when Oilers goalie Bill Ranford injured his groin during a November 12th game against the Sharks. Ranford was forced to sit out two games to recover. The Oilers recalled Andrew Verner to dress as Ron Tugnutt's backup. Although Ranford was back after just two games, the Oilers opted to keep Verner with the club until November 23rd. Hockey News writer and long time friend of Verner, Adam Proteau, wrote an article about Verner's career in 2010.  He wrote that Verner's, "personal highlight was being recalled to the NHL team for 12 days as Ron Tugnutt’s backup." He even asked Verner about the experience, “It was tremendous being up, you’re just trying to take it all in at that point. You don’t really think too far ahead. And the money I got from those two weeks was more than I’d ever made. In the ‘A,’ I was making around 30 grand. So that was nice." (1)

Andrew Verner left the Oilers in 1994 and played pro hockey in Europe until 2009.  He and Ron Tugnutt would cross paths again when he replaced his former teammate as Peterborough Petes goalie coach in 2013.
