Dustin Butler

1 NHL Game

April 10, 2013 Vancouver Canucks vs Calgary Flames. 4-1 win.

From 2003 to 2008 Dustin Butler played nearly 200 games in the WHL. He opted to pursue an education after finishing his junior hockey career. From 2008 to 2013 he tended net for the University of Calgary Dinos. He was invited to the Vancouver Canucks' 2011 development camp but not offered a contract. He had entered the team's radar after being named the 2010/2011 CIS goaltender of the year.

April 10, 2013 the Canucks were scrambling to find a goalie when Cory Schneider suddenly fell ill.  In Calgary, the Canucks looked to their old training camp invitee and signed Dustin Butler to a professional tryout agreement for the day. He served as backup to Roberto Luongo in a 4-1 Canucks win. He nearly saw a little ice time at the end of the game as coach Alan Vigneault explained, “I was feeling a lot of pressure from my bench because everybody was after me to put him in. I think it says a lot about the group. They wanted the young man to get a little taste of the NHL but we didn’t get a whistle and I’m not sure if we would have (gotten) one what I would’ve done, to tell the truth.” (1)

After graduating from the University of Calgary in 2013 Butler continued his hockey career. In September 2013, he signed a contract to play for pro for the 2013/2014 ECHL's Colorado Eagles. Butler retired from pro hockey after just one season in Colorado.
