Once a member of the prestigious US National Development Program, Jordan Pearce spent four years playing for the University of Notre Dame. With Pearce in net they claimed the CCHA championship in 2007 and 2009. In 2008 Pearce was named a CCHA All-American. He was signed by the Red Wings as a free agent in 2009 when his college career was over.

Late January, 2011 the Detroit Red Wings were going through a goaltending ordeal. Joey MacDonald was sent from Detroit to the AHL in order to get some playing time. Evgeni Nabokov was signed as a free agent but needed to clear waivers in order to join the club. In the meantime Detroit recalled Jordan Pearce to take MacDonald's place as Jimmy Howard's backup. When Nabokov was claimed by the Islanders the Red Wings decided to recall Joey MacDonald again. Pearce sat on the bench for one game behind Howard. In the summer of 2011 the Red Wings resigned Pearce to another two-year, two-way contract.

Jordan Pearce was recalled to the Red Wings late into the 2011/2012 season. When Jimmy Howard was diagnosed with a lower body injury in early March the Red Wings dressed Pearce as Joey MacDonald's backup. This stint lasted 3 games for Pearce. Less than a week later, however, Pearce was back in Detroit. This time he was serving as Jimmy Howard's backup because Joey MacDonald was suffering back spasms. Pearce's third and final stint in the NHL was his longest, he dressed for six games. When it became apparent that MacDonald would miss the remainder of the season the Red Wings opted to send Pearce to the minors in favor of a more experience goalie in Ty Conklin.

The Red Wings decided no to re-sign Pearce when his contract expired after the 2012/2013 season.
